Dr. Gary Ackerman

Gary Ackerman, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He graduated cum laude from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, before earning his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY, where he was admitted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Ackerman began his medical journey with an internship at Mount Sinai Hospital and then pursued a combined residency in Orthopedic Surgery Training through Harvard University at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He continued his training with an additional fellowship in Sports Medicine at the same institution.

During this time, Dr. Ackerman actively participated in the care of Harvard University athletes and held a teaching appointment with Harvard Medical School. Notably, he served as a team physician for the NCAA Championship Harvard Hockey Team in 1989. Since that year, Dr. Ackerman has been in active practice in orthopedic surgery in Palm Beach County.

Dr. Ackerman’s passion for athletics, stemming from his experience as captain of the Harvard Varsity Basketball team in 1977-78, ignited his interest in treating sports injuries. His current recreational pursuits include tennis, basketball, and outdoor activities.

In his practice, Dr. Ackerman specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, cartilage restoration surgery, and total joint reconstructions, providing cutting-edge treatment to professional and amateur athletes. Dr. Ackerman also serves as the team physician for the United States Tennis Association and is affiliated with Jupiter Medical Center and Northpoint Surgery and Laser Center. He also contributes as a manuscript reviewer for the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine.

Presently, Dr. Ackerman holds positions as the Houston Astros Spring Training Physician and Minor League Physician for the West Palm Beach Houston Astros Organization.
